Julia Melinek was born in London. She was awarded a Peter Moores Foundation Scholarship to train at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the Actor’s Centre in London.

She was awarded the ‘American Express Prize for Outstanding Operatic Performance’ for her performances of Santuzza (Cavelleria) at Holland Park Opera and went on the sing  Madama Butterfly (title role) at English National Opera, Royal Albert Hall (Gubbay), and Lyric Opera Dublin. Other roles include  Manon Lescaut (title role) for E.N.O. Gerhilde and Helmwige Die Walkure for E.N.O. Menotti’s ‘The Saint of Bleecker Street’ (title role) at the Spoleto Festival (Italy) with Giancarlo Menotti directing, ‘Suor Angelica’ (title role) for Dorset Opera, Nella (Gianni Schicchi) for E.N.O. 1st Lay sister Suor Angelica E.N.O. Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) with Sir Colin Davis, Musetta (La Boheme)  for New Israeli Opera, Santuzza (Cavalleria) Holland Park, Tosca (title role) for Opera Holland Park, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) English Touring Opera, Garsington Opera and Mid Wales Opera, Giorgetta (Il Tabarro)  Broomhill, Fenena (Nabucco) conducted by Sir Edward Downes, Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) for B.Y.O., and Viva Verdi staged Verdi galas for New Zealand Opera in Auckland and Wellington. She also performed Gerhilde in English National Opera's Die Walkure at Glastonbury on the main stage, signifying the only opera to have ever been performed at Glastonbury.

 

Miss Melinek performs regularly on the International concert platform including galas and oratorio at the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Bridgewater Hall with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, plus concerts for Israeli National Television, New York concert series and the Lanka Philharmonic in Colombo. She has also appeared live on BBC radio 3 ‘In Tune’. She is the founder of and regular performer at the Terra di Marina festival in Oria, Italy. ​

 

Her discography includes, for Chandos Records, the title role of Menotti’s The Saint Of Bleecker Street’ and the cantata Muero Porque non Muero (Chandos / Menotti / Hickox).

Miss Melinek also offers corporate training in presentation skills, voice training  and filming techniques.
